The Palm Beach Gator Snow Ski Club is a group of active, fun-loving, sports-minded people who live in sunny South Florida (mainly Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast), but also share a love for winter activities. Our founding fathers adopted the alligator logo because of its association with South Florida. They did not intend to emulate any University or College.

Message from Kelly Lunsford, President

Happy New Year!

Many of us are happy to see 2020 go and move on to 2021.

As we continue to face challenges with COVID, the club has made a decision to stay in the United States for trips in 2021.  We have a trip to the Grand Canyon and keep an eye out for some other active outdoor trips and activities.  Most of our overseas trips have been moved to 2022.

We will continue to follow the guidelines and put safety of travelers and members first.  We continue to have our happy hours scheduled at outdoor restaurants.  Weather permitting we may move our General Meetings to outside at the Stadium Grill.

I am looking forward to seeing you all and hopeful for us to get back out there again to ski and travel.

Kelly Lunsford, President

Message from Carol Pattison, VP of Ski Trips

Hi Skiers,

Well, in keeping with the unusual happenings of the 2020-21 Ski Season, Mammoth has been changed to Big Sky on the same dates. Since California has been so restrictive, Big Sky is a good alternative. The majority of the travelers on the Mammoth trip said they would rather go to Big Sky than Park City. There may be a space or two on the trip so contact Linda Mitchell, Mammoth trip leader, about space available.

Jackson Hole is still on the schedule and should be a go with few if any restrictions. They may still have some space so contact Stephanie Morgan for availability.

The Vail/Beaver Creek trip was a wonderful success and we are happy the skiers were able to go and have a good time. The Charter was even able to provide social distancing for a group dinner.

The club is starting to work on the 2022 ski trips so feel free to let me know if you have any ideas for next year. The FSC trip the Club is participating in for 2022 is to Heavenly at Lake Tahoe.

Message from Walter Marussich, VP of  Special Activities

Hi Gators,

1.   Activities  open to Guests and Public:

Often the question arises whether or not you need to be a member to participate in an overnight trip. The answer can be confusing. So let us start with the club charter which allows members to have guests.

Due to liability issues, however:

  • All overseas trips and trips where the Club provides transportation (air and/or ground) require that everyone be a member.
  • Meet-up style activities, those where you book your hotel - you get there on your own, do permit guest so long as they are bona fide guests.  That is, at least one member of your party is a club member.
  • Activities open to the public require board action unless already allowed by our bylaws such as general membership meetings.

Remember, even though the club offers many activities and services such as trips, we are not a retail store open to the general public.   We are a not-for-profit organization that answers to our membership.

In the  future, I will endeavor to identify activities that are open to the public, or where guests are permitted.

2.  Club sponsors:

Do you have a message? Do you need to advertise your business?  Do you just want some deserved recognition?

The Gator Snow Ski Club offers you the opportunity do display the your message in our sponsors page. Depending on the size of your message, a suggested  donation is expected in order to  help support  our website expenses.

The board must approve your message.  No vulgar, defamatory statements or language detrimental to the club or its members will be permitted.

3. Trip Status During the Pandemic

Due to the worldwide pandemic, we are unable to determine if and/or the extent  to which our overseas program activities will be delivered.  Consequently, both the Thailand trip and the Ireland/Scotland trip are postponed.  Unless drastic worldwide changes occur, it will be unlikely  that overseas travel is an option for the 2021 calendar year.

As most of the concerned travelers know, our Thailand vendor has applied for reorganization under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.   Your board is actively pursuing recovering deposits as well as collaborating with individuals who upgraded their air.

Our summer travel program for 2021 will include domestic travel options.

Thank you for your patience.

Walter Marussich, VP Special Activities
