In the next few weeks, we will be nominating Trip Leaders, Assistant Trip Leaders and Trainees for the 2017-2018 ski season.

We are a Club run entirely by volunteers, and we need YOU to consider fulfilling one of our most important roles: Trip Leader! for any of our wonderful ski trips.

Trip Leaders have many responsibilities: help sell the trip, manage the accounting, set up parties on the mountain, problem-solve at all times. The Trip Leader puts the interests of the group always first, and is the captain, caretaker and cheerleader for the trip. For all this, you earn the benefit of going on the trip COST FREE* and an invaluable leadership training opportunity.

Assistant Trip Leaders that assist in trips with over 48 participants receive the benefit of going on the trip at a 50% DISCOUNT*. Assistants on trips with less than 48 participants are considered Trip Leader Trainees and receive no benefit.

However, and more importantly, Assistant Trip Leaders and Trip Leader Trainees get the training and qualifications to be a Trip Leader the following season or any time afterwards.

Note: *trips require that a certain number of spots be sold in order for the Trip Leader or Assistant Trip Leader to obtain their full benefit. If trip is undersold in spite of due diligence, compensation will be prorated.

At this time, we only have the details of the Florida Ski Council trips that our Club intends to join (*details subject to change). More trips will be added - please keep an eye on our announcements.

The FSC January trip is to Steamboat, Colorado. January 20-27, 2018.  We are planning for 60 spots and staying at Dulany at the Gondola (Ski In/Walk Out)*.

The FSC February trip is to Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  February 24-March 3, 2018.  We will have 32 spots and staying at Teton Village Condominiums (5 min shuttle to lifts)*.

We are considering participating in the International FSC Ski Trip to Sierra Nevada, Spain, March 11-18, 2018 but pricing is not yet in. The FAM (familiarization trip) reports were very favorable.

For Trip Leader, you qualify if you have been an Assistant Trip Leader or a Trip Leader before (except if you led a trip this last season). The requirement of having been an Assistant may be waived by the Board of Directors if you have other proven leadership qualities. For Assistant Trip Leader and Trainee, you qualify if you have been a member in good standing for at least one year and have participated in at least one trip.

In order to do your job, it is a must that you own a computer and that you are able to use e-mail (including sending attachments), and can work with Excel spreadsheets in order to manage the trip accounting.

Empathy, responsibility, energy, caring, are the qualities of a successful trip leader.

Trip Leaders, Assistant Trip Leaders and Trainees will be required to attend 3 or 4 training sessions.

Download The Trip Leader Application   (also use for Assistant Trip Leader and Trainee)

Where would you like to ski in 2018?

This is the time of the year when we begin to plan the ski program for the next season, in this case 2018.

Our Club has decided to participate in both Florida Ski Council domestic ski trips in 2018.

To these 2 or 3 FSC trips, we would like to add approx. 3 or 4 Club trips.

I would like to know where you are interested in going!

Please send me a list of your 3 favorite destinations via e-mail so I can take your preferences into account while planning.

    Thank you!

Skiing is on! Both on winter and in the summer of 2017!

Our fun filled exceptionally priced first trip to Copper Mountain, Colorado  Jan 7-14, 2017 is about to take off for the slopes. And they had plenty of powder fall this last week! Initially set for 24, we had to add some extra spots and we are taking 27 lucky Gators

Almost upon us is our second trip, to Beaver Creek, Colorado – Jan 21-28, 2017. This is a Florida Ski Council Trip and is expected to include a total of approx. 400 skiers from all over Florida. I am participating on this trip and cannot wait to ski on legendary powder in a luxury resort with heated sidewalks and warm chocolate chip cookies when you come back from the slopes! We planned for 60 spots, but we had more applicants so it got expanded to 64. Approximately half are skiing Vail on Wednesday for even more fun

Third is our exciting trip to Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado – February 4-11, 2017 This was an exceptionally priced trip and a great value that did not go unnoticed. It sold out within 3 weeks! 42 Gators going

For our next trip we are headed to Canada. Our Lake Louise/Banff ski trip with the Florida Ski Council is February 25-March 4, 2017 with 23 lucky Gators going!

For our next ski trip, we are going back to fabulous Andalo-Paganella, Italy on March 11-18, 2017. Sold out and expanded to 44 Gators going.

Last but not least is our Spring Break trip March 18-25, 2017 to ski on Big Sky with 23 Gators going.

To top this exciting season, we have added a new trip: Valle Nevado, Chile, for the summer of 2017.

Valle Nevado Chile is a modern, international level ski resort, known for its powder skiing and snowboarding, good backcountry access including heliskiing, and well maintained slopes for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. Ski season runs from June to October. We are going at the top of the season, August 17- 27, 2017

Valle Nevado resort is part of the Tres Valles (Three Valleys) along with neighboring ski resorts La Parva and El Colorado. Combined, the Tres Valles boasts the largest terrain in all of South America, with nearly 7,000 acres of skiable domain.  Valle Nevado alone has around 2,200 acres.

For weather, it claims up to 80 percent sunny days, but due to Valle Nevado’s altitude and orientation, it generally keeps its snow in good condition for skiers and riders exploring the groomed slopes, bowls, and backcountry.

You can snowboard and ski Valle Nevado as high as 3,670 meters (12,040 feet) above sea level, surrounded by 6,000 meter peaks. It is one of the few places in the world you may see the rare Andean Condor soaring above the pistes.

The ski center has the most advanced lift system in South America, including the only high-speed detachable quad. 2013 featured the opening of the first ski center gondola in Chile. With 70 six-person cars, it takes skiers from the 17th Curve Service Area in Gondola Plaza to the mid-mountain Bajo Zero Restaurant.

    This fabulous trip includes:

In the next couple of weeks, we will be nominating Trip Leaders, Assistant Trip Leaders and Trainees for the 2016-2017 ski season.

Here is an outline the trips (tentative, subject to change!!!):

    • Jan 7 to 12 or 8-13, 2017 Copper Mountain, Colorado or Winter Park, Colorado (28 travelers)
    • Jan 21-28, 2017 Beaver Creek, Colorado- Florida Ski Council Trip (48-60 travelers)
    • Feb 4-11, 2017 Snowmass, Colorado (48 travelers)
    • Feb 25-March 4, 2017 Lake Louise/Banff, Canada- Florida Ski Council Trip (36 travelers)
    • Mar 18-25, 2017 (Spring Break) Big Sky, Montana (32 travelers)

We have entered November and there is a chill in the air.  Well, maybe not quite the arctic freeze here in our beautiful Palm Beach County but enough to herald the coming of our fun snow ski season.

First, let me praise all of those who have helped with the Snow Gala.  It was a free and well received event for our members and guests.  We enjoyed a great party that enabled a lot of us to enjoy several hours of camaraderie and mirth with new and seasoned skiers.  Thank you, team!  I must apologize to those of you to whom I gave the impression that I am a double black diamond skier.  The truth is that I have trouble telling my right boot from my left.

As we start this month, there is some more important news to share.  We are now offering a bargain trip to Winter Park, Colorado. The trip is priced to sell for under $1,000 dollars including air and lift tickets and $662 as a ground package.  We are still looking for a trip leader.  This will be the 4 ski day, 5 night budget trip you have been asking for. It has been scheduled so that you can take it stand-alone or as a pre-trip extension to Vail.

Next, I must remind you that we are rapidly approaching our air utilization deadlines.  That means that we have to take stock of how many air seats we have sold, how much more air we can sell and then turn back what we do not foresee as required.   Unfortunately, we do not have a crystal ball; some of you will not decide to join us at one of our superb destinations until later this year and we may have to regretfully inform you that the trip is closed or that there may be a considerable increase in price if you still insist upon joining us.

All trips are a go!   We have some trips with numbers in the 20’s but that is a success in that it provides the Club with a diversity of options and time to enjoy that great pastime we call snow skiing.  Who would have ever thought that sliding on two (or one) boards down a frozen hill would be so gleeful?  For me there is great joy when I get to the bottom of the run in one piece.  I just don’t understand why I feel compelled to get back on that chairlift just to repeat the harebrained experience again.

Among the good news, the spring break trip to South Lake Tahoe / Heavenly is selling well.  Surprise, surprise, at a price of $1,699, how could it possibly not sell?  Please join Ray Collie, the trip leader for our March 14, 2015 Lake Tahoe trip.

I have asked three of our trip leaders to stop selling.   Their trips are totally full and we have gone to extraordinary measures to fill a few additional spots.  If you waited too long to sign up, you are facing an uncertain wait on the “wait list of eternity plus one day“.   At this time, I would suggest that you find another equally desirable trip.  We are at the halfway point of our sales season and the odds are that you will not get onto that trip roster.

Log in to our website and secure your spots on the other rosters.  Our Club policy, “First to pay - First to get on”, is in full effect.  The quickest way to get on is to pay via the website!

Please review our world class website to learn more about these exciting trips and trip leaders. Please review the super low prices for the trips listed below:

    .

Taos, New Mexico is an exciting destination.  We have not visited this destination in several years and it is high time we reacquaint ourselves with the very hospitable Snakedance Inn.  This trip has a Learn to Ski Week option for only $130, but it also has a high appeal to skiers of all abilities. This trip has been a late bloomer for us, but it is starting to pick up momentum. Please join Patti Bochniak at this fabulous resort.  P.S. I hear some nice things are being planned for us.  Would you like to know what?

I plead, barter, and cry trying to keep these trips alive and within the best possible group rates.  It is probably not a good idea for you to try to negotiate additional discounts on your own.  Please help us maintain our reputation and goodwill with the industry vendors and reps so that we can continue to obtain excellent prices.  Please be courteous and considerate to your fellow travelers, trip leaders and resort personnel.

    Dear Gators,

As we start the beginning of October, there is one important event to keep in your calendar; our annual Ski Gala.  On October 2nd, you will have the chance to socialize with fellow skiers, meet new people, and review our ski trip line up in a different, more jubilant ambience.  The city, coincidentally, has scheduled some interesting events for that evening.

Your board has experimented with several ways to approach the public and increase membership.  By the number of new visitors to our website, we know will we see some new faces.   Please join us in making our new friends feel welcome!

The good news is that your board has added an additional trip to the lineup.  We are now offering a spring break trip to South Lake Tahoe/ Heavenly.  Surprise, Surprise, at  a price of  $1699  we have received yet another incredible bargain price from the  Sports America team.   Please join me in welcoming  Ray Collie as the trip leader for Our March 14,  2015 Lake Tahoe trip

The less than desirable news is that three of our trips are either sold out or within a couple of spots of being so.  If you waited too long to sign up, you are facing an uncertain wait on the “wait list of eternity plus one day “.   Just kidding, do not fret if you are told that there is a wait list.  It is early yet in the season and at this time wait lists are flexible, and very dynamic.    The odds that you will join a trip greatly improve the sooner you sign up for a wait list.

Log in to our website and secure your spots on the rosters.  Our club policy, “First to pay - First to get on”, is in full effect.  The quickest way to get on is to pay via the website!

Russian is not a language I speak so unlike previous officers, I will not write a lengthy Russian novel describing each trip to the Nth detail.  Instead, I will concentrate on two valuable jewels.

Our Early season choice is the classically popular destination – Steamboat Springs. This resort boasts the beast early snow in Colorado and at the incredible price of $1,499 it is an unbelievable value.   Opportunities for a 7 day ski trip at a resort of this caliber for that economical price are rare indeed.  Please join Gail Paglialungo at this major resort. You may sign up online or contact our wonderful Gail at (561) 358-2048 or paglialg@comcast.net  to sign up. Gail is planning an outstanding trip

Taos, New Mexico is also another exciting destination.  We have not visited this destination in several years and it is high time we reacquaint ourselves with the very hospitable Snakedance Inn.  This trip has a Learn to Ski Week option, but it also has a high appeal to skiers of all abilities.  Please join Ned and Patti at this fabulous resort.  PS . I hear some nice things are being planned for us.  Do you want to know what?

Our main theme is year is to treat our guests with courtesy, fairness, and honesty.  However, please remember that our trip leaders are volunteer Club members and are not seasoned experienced tour guides. They deserve the same courtesy and fairness back from us.  Be ready to assist them as they organize and conduct your ski trip.  Were you to volunteer you might be in their spot next year.

Sporst America and I plead, barter, whine, and cry trying to get you the best possible group rates.   We drive the resorts/vendors   (except airlines) to the point where they complain about us taking food form their children’s table ( a little hyperbole to drive a point) .  It is probably not a good idea for you to try to negotiate additional discounts on your own.  Boy, do we ever hear about it.  Also remember that we get severely discounted lift tickets with the expectation that we will personally use the lift tickets and not sell them.  We need to maintain our reputation and goodwill with the industry vendors and reps so that we can continue to obtain excellent prices.

For more information and continuously updated information, visit our Club’s website at www.gatorsnowskiclub.com.

I am looking forward to spending time with you on the ski trails.         Walter
